Today I'm here to share the recipe for ABC juice (apple, beet, carrot juice) but before that a brief history why I decided to blog about this utterly fabulous and delicious recipe.
Ever since I read an eye-opening article about how amazing beets are for liver health, I've been on a mission to include them in our meals. The article talked about their detoxifying, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, which support liver function and overall health.
Beets contain pigments called betalains, which have potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. These compounds help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in the liver. Beets are also high in nitrates, which help improve blood flow and reduce blood pressure. Improved circulation aids in the efficient functioning of the liver.
Since my husband's doctor mentioned he needs to take care of his liver, I've been sneaking beets into our cooking regularly. It's been a tasty and healthy addition to our routine, like this gingered beets salad, beets peanut salad, or this beet and carrot soup to just mention a few.
That’s when I discovered the famous ABC juice – apple, beet, and carrot juice – and all its incredible health benefits. Coincidentally, Thanksgiving was around the corner, and I found this amazing AmzChef juicer on sale with excellent reviews.
This motivated me to finally buy a juicer, even though I had always been hesitant about investing in one. I assumed it might just take up my already limited counter space and not get much use.
I needn't have worried about using the juicer because since I bought it, I've been juicing more than I ever imagined. Plain beet juice, plain carrot juice, mean green juice, ABC juice, and immunity-boosting gooseberry and raw turmeric shots have all become regular staples in my routine.
ABC juice is more than just a tasty beverage; it's a nutritional powerhouse that offers a wide range of health benefits.

- It enhances skin health. The vitamins and antioxidants in ABC juice promote healthy, glowing skin. They help combat free radicals and reduce inflammation, leading to clearer and more youthful-looking skin.
- This juice also improves digestion. The high fiber content in apples and carrots aids in healthy digestion, preventing constipation and promoting regular bowel movements. Beets also support digestive health by stimulating the production of digestive enzymes.
- ABC juice helps lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol levels, and improve blood circulation, all of which contribute to a healthier heart. The nitrates in beets are particularly beneficial for cardiovascular health.
- The natural sugars and nutrients in ABC juice provide a quick and sustained energy boost. It's a great choice for a pre- or post-workout drink, helping to keep you energized throughout the day.

- Beets and carrots contain powerful anti-inflammatory compounds that can help reduce inflammation in the body, benefiting conditions like arthritis and other inflammatory disorders.
- Carrots are well-known for their high beta-carotene content, which is converted to vitamin A in the body. This vitamin is essential for maintaining good vision and eye health.
Ingredients to make ABC Juice:
To make ABC juice you will need fresh
- apples, organic if possible
- beets
- carrots and optionally
- lemon and ginger for extra zing.
There are no strict rules for the quantities of beets, carrots, and apples you use in ABC juice. It all depends on what's available and which flavor you want to highlight. Feel free to play around with the ratios to find the balance that suits your taste.
Tips to prepare ABC Juice:
Start by washing all the ingredients thoroughly to remove any dirt or residues. If possible, use organic produce for the best quality and nutrient content. Peel the beets and carrots if desired, though leaving the skin on can add extra nutrients. Core the apples and cut everything into small pieces that can fit into your juicer.
Adjust the ratios according to your taste preference. If you're using a blender, you might need to add a little water to help blend the ingredients smoothly. Once prepped, juice or blend everything together, and strain if you prefer a smoother texture.
Taste and Texture:
ABC juice has a vibrant, refreshing taste with a perfect balance of sweetness from the apples and carrots, and an earthy undertone from the beets. Using a slow masticating juicer ensures that the juice consistency is almost perfectly smooth, with no pulp needing to be strained. This type of juicer extracts all the juice from the fruits and vegetables, leaving the pulp incredibly dry.
I always add lemon and ginger to the juice, loving the extra zing and pleasant spicy kick they provide. I've tried it without lemon and ginger, but I definitely prefer this juice with these additions for the enhanced freshness and flavor.
Now let's move on the recipe for ABC juice.
Recipe
ABC Juice Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 beets, small
- 4 carrots, medium
- 2 red delicious apples, medium
- ½ lemon
- Piece of ginger
Instructions
- Peel the beets and carrots, cut into chunks to fit the juicer chute.
- If using organic apples, do not peel the apple. Just core it and cut into slices
- Peel the skin from the ginger.
- Follow your juicer's instructions to make the juice. I juice the beets, carrots and apple separately, one after the other so that I can have separate pulp for using later. I run the ginger through the juicer as well. Once all these are done, I squeeze the lemon and stir it well in the ABC juice. You can also choose to run the lemon through the juicer after removing the seeds.
- If you don't have a juicer, cut all fruits and vegetables into small chunks add enough water and blend it into a smooth liquid and strain it over a cheesecloth or sieve to remove the pulp and get fresh juice.
My Notes
- You can use any type of apples. Each variety of apple will lend a different taste and flavor to the juice.
- Sometimes to make the job even easier I use baby carrots to make this ABC juice.
- The color of this abc juice varies according to the ratio of the ingredients that you use. If beets is used more than carrots the juice will be in dark purple beets like color as against dark reddish orange if carrots are used more.
- You can also add cucumber and celery for additional flavor but I prefer to keep it just the apples, beet and carrots. Sometimes I add mint leaves. That along with the lemon and ginger are the only additions I like in this ABC juice.
- You can store this juice for up to 3 days. I read that we can also store up to a week but I prefer to make them fresh. So I just have it for 2 days at the most in the fridge. Apparently you can freeze it too. I haven't tried it yet.
- I came to know that juice pulp is edible and made these vegan banana carrot muffins using the carrot pulp and chocolate beet muffins using the beet pulp from this abc juice.
